Workshops & Lab
Sur Mundo Ensemble’s in-house workshop-lab combines two approaches: workshop + laboratory in an intense short time-line of 2-4 days. The workshop-lab can be included, as well, in the curricula of a dance residency, or belong to a preparatory part of a project.
The workshop-labs are conceived to teach hands-on dance devices and specific tasks to new fellow dancers while there is time and room to experiment with novel choreographical processes, improvisations and explorations. In this case, the leader dramaturge assembles specialized, knowledge, skills and tools related to body awareness, movement practices and Tango cores to gear the dance performers to experience and assimilate technical paths and routines, which will be used later during the laboratory phase. In a lab phase, a safe space is given to the dance fellow to explore devices or tasks individually, in duets or in groups. A proactive collaboration among participants is crucial in the functioning of this practice. Usually, there is one theme per workshop-lab programmed.
